Active Principles.
Abundant starch:
amylopectin (over 80%) beta - amylose, tropeína, minerals, trace elements, tannins. Alkaloids: heterósidos of solanidina (trace) which occur when greening by solar
radiation
or to germinate.
Drug Action.
Demucente, antacid, anti - inflammatory, antipruritic. In pharmacy, starches are used as an adjunct to tablet formulation. The alkaloids (solanina) advocated therapeutically few years ago, as antineurálgicos and analgesics, are in abeyance.
Indications.
Gastritis
, gastroduodenal ulcer. In topical use: burns, eczema, itching to Pursue syndromes.
Caution / Poisoning.
Potential toxicity solanina content of the green parts, which must be discarded: its intake can cause
gastroenteritis
, vomiting,
bleeding
and
respiratory
depression
and
nervous
.
Galenica forms / Dosage.
Fresh Juice, 100 - 200 ml, 4 - 5 times
a
day, at the beginning of meals, as antacid.
In powder, ointment, or cataplasms for topical use.
