Barley contains starch, enzymes: amylase, minerals: chromium, phosphorous, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium. Polyunsaturated fatty acids: oleic, linoleic. Traces of alkaloids: hordenina, grasses.
The digestive enzymes perform a similar function. The hordenina confers adrenergic properties (sympathomimetics) soft: antidiarrheal through inhibition of intestinal hiperperistaltismo, hypertensive (to produce peripheral vasoconstriction), cardiotonic. It is also a diuretic, and demulcent in external use. The germ oil barley is lipid.
