It is distinguished by its yellow flowers with 4 or 6 petals. One occurs in the southern United States, Mexico and throughout Central America. It belongs to the family of Papaveráceas as poppy and opium.
Its properties are similar to those of opium, which can replace. The leaves and seeds are used in infusion as a sedative, analgesic and anti-cough. They have a slight narcosis. The entire plant contains a yellow latex that is used externally against warts.
