Used Part
The resinous exudates obtained by incising the trunk.
Active Principles
Resin (80%): alcohols resínicos combined with benzoic acid and Cinnamic. Acid-free aromatics (10-15% of Cinnamic, 8% of Benzoic), esters (benzyl benzoate and cinnamate); traces of vanillin, eugenol, acid ferúlico.
Drug Action
Stimulant, expectorant, béquico, spasmolytic, digestive, antiseptic, healing, antiparasitic.
Indications
Respiratory conditions: bronchitis, asthma, pulmonary emphysema, irritative cough, sore throat, laryngitis, tracheitis. Cystitis, urethritis. In topical use: wounds, skin ulcers, scabies.
Side Effects
Its topical use can cause contact dermatitis in susceptible individuals.
Galenica forms / Dosage
- Syrup (5-10%), in association with other plants or expectorants béquicas: Three or four tablespoons per day.
- Fluid extract (1:1): 15 to 30 drops three times daily.
- Tincture (1:5): 30-50 drops, one to three times a day, or topical application.
