Resinous secretion (balm).
Active Principles
Although the official is the benjuí Sumatra, sometimes also used the benjuí of Siam (especially in industry, such as flavoring)
- Benjuí Sumatra (Styrax Benzoin Driand, Styrax paralleloneurus Perkins): balsamic acids (25-30%): Cinnamic, Benzoic and its esters. Triterpenoids acids derived from oleanólico: resinólico-sia, sum-resinólico; vanillin (0.5%).
- Benjuí of Siam (Styrax tonkinensis (Pierre) Craib.): Composition similar to that of Sumatra, with a much smaller proportion of Cinnamic acid, being the main component benzoate coniferilo.
Drug Action
Expectorant, antiseptic, antifungal, healing.
Indications
Bronchitis, bronchiectasis, emphysema, asthma. In topical use: wounds, sores, dermatomycosis, gingivitis, parodontopatías, acne, boils, eczema, psoriasis, scalds.
Side Effects
The fumes released by the benjuí accesses can trigger coughing.
The resin powder can cause sneezing and contact dermatitis in susceptible individuals.
Galenica forms / Dosage
- Resin: 250-500 mg / dose, two or three shots a day (as expectorant and antiseptic lung).
- Fluid extract (1:1): 10 to 30 drops, one to three times a day.
- Tincture (1:10) from benjuí: 40-60 drops, one to three times a day.
- External use: in the form of ointments, lotions, liniment.
